Overview

The Tristar MPPT™ Solar Controller, an advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 3kW, is a very critical device to Flexenclosure’s operations, as it is key to powering eSite. The device gets damaged periodically, especially during the rainy season, and can be replaced by either repairing or getting a new one. Number of damaged devices per month in 2017

Each device costs 630USD, with an estimated lifespan of 3 years. However, they all have an 80 – 90% probability of getting damaged within a 12 months period due to lightning and thunderstorms, and the high-risk period is usually between April and November. In 2017, 99 devices were damaged, and it cost Flexenclosure approximately One Million Naira/quarter to move the devices to the factory abroad for repairs.

  1. How do we prevent these devices from getting damaged? Note the devices are usually installed in remote locations or placed in modular facilities
  2. How do we repair the damaged devices locally in a cost-effective and efficient manner?
